Workshop at Animayo International Film Festival
(Gran Canaria, Spain, 2024)
In May 2024, Kateryna had the honor of leading a workshop during the Animayo International Film Festival in Gran Canaria — the first and only animation festival in Spain accredited by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (Oscars) as a qualifying event for the Best Animated Short Film category.
During the event, she shared the story behind the creation of Loving Vincent — the world’s first fully hand-painted feature film made with oil paints — and presented our new project, The Peasants, on which she is currently working at BreakThru Films. The film is based on the Nobel Prize–winning novel The Peasants by Władysław Reymont.
Kateryna spoke about the unique technique of oil-painted stop-motion animation, the language of painting in cinema, working with color, light, and texture, and also shared her personal impressions, experience, and practical insights.
The interaction with participants, thoughtful questions, and open atmosphere made this day truly unforgettable.
Sincere thanks to:
– the Animayo team — for the invitation and warm welcome,
– the Polish Film Institute (PISF) — for the support,
– BreakThru Films studio — for the incredible opportunity to be part of this project,
– all participants — your attention, interest, and feedback were a great inspiration to us!
